Old walls need lining first
Plaster in older cottages tends to be soft, uneven and cracked in places. Before a decorative paper goes up we strip the old layers, deal with loose patches, fill, and hang lining paper horizontally so its joints never line up with the top paper. That gives the finished paper an even base and stops cracks showing through.
Landbeach has 26 listed buildings and a conservation area. In a listed home it is wise to check with South Cambridgeshire District Council before removing original plaster or features, and Graham will ask about listing when he visits.
Wallpapering in Landbeach, from one wall to whole houses
With 69% of Landbeach households owning their home, many papering jobs here are long-term choices: a chimney breast in a bold print, a William Morris design in the hall, or a bedroom papered from skirting to ceiling. Simon, our wallpaper specialist, hangs the hand-printed and pattern-matched papers.

How we approach wallpapering
On an old Landbeach wall we soak and strip the existing paper, scrape off paste, fill and sand, then cross-line and let the lining dry. Simon sets out the pattern from the wall you see first, hangs each length to a plumb line and matches every drop. Newer plasterboard is sized first so the paper slides into place. The full method, products and FAQs are on our wallpapering page.
