A painter and decorator for Melbourn
Melbourn is a large clustered village in south-west Cambridgeshire, with its high street bypassed by the A10. The 2021 Census counted 4,907 residents in 2,143 households, mostly in detached and semi-detached houses, which together make up about three-quarters of homes.
Roughly 69% of households own their home and about 28% rent, with social landlords housing almost 18%.
Homes from every decade
About 290 Melbourn homes were built before 1900, and the village kept growing after the war. The busiest stretch was 1965 to 1982, with around 840 homes, but building has carried on, and roughly a quarter of the stock dates from 2000 or later.
That spread matters for decorating. A pre-1900 cottage needs patient preparation and lining paper on uneven walls, a 1970s semi may need an Artex ceiling skimmed, and a recent build mostly needs its first proper repaint. The Manor House and the Parish Church of All Saints, both Grade II*, head the village's list of protected buildings.
Services for Melbourn homes
We offer interior painting and decorating, wallpaper hanging, exterior house painting, kitchen unit painting, plastering through our own plasterers and sash window painting for period houses, along with floor sanding, uPVC spraying and garden timber.
Our 12 decorators are City & Guilds or NVQ qualified, we're Dulux Select Decorators, and Graham is an associate member of the Painting and Decorating Association.
From first visit to walk-round
Graham visits to see the house and talk through the work, then sends a written quotation, usually by email. We stick to the figure, and extras are agreed before they happen. Belinda books the dates and keeps you informed. At the end we walk round together, and you don't pay until you're happy with the finished work.
