Old Soham and new Soham
Soham sits just off the A142 between Ely and Newmarket, in East Cambridgeshire. Its listed buildings include one at Grade I and four at Grade II*, among them the Manor House, Northfield Windmill and St Nicholas at Barway, and there is a designated Soham conservation area. Soham Mere, a lake to the east of the town, had disappeared by 1813.
Alongside that history sits a lot of recent building. Around 2,090 of the town's homes went up in 2000 or later, and 1,330 of those date from 2009 onwards. The median home falls in the 1983 to 1992 band, which shows how evenly the ages are spread.
Who we decorate for in Soham
The 2021 Census counted 5,236 households. About 60% own their home, 21% rent privately, 16% rent from a social landlord and 2.4% are in shared ownership. Two-thirds live in detached or semi-detached houses, and 12% in flats.
That mix brings a wide range of jobs: first redecorations of newer homes, patient work on older walls and windows, and turnarounds for landlords. Our pages on sash window painting in Soham and interior decorating for Soham homes go into more detail.
How a Soham job starts
Graham drives over, about 15 miles by road from Landbeach, at a time that suits you and talks through the work room by room. You get a written quotation, usually by email, and we stick to it, agreeing any extras before they're done. Belinda arranges the dates and keeps you informed.
Our 12 decorators hold City & Guilds or NVQ qualifications, and we are Dulux Select Decorators with £5 million public liability insurance.
