Fordham's buildings, old and new
The parish has 29 listed buildings, according to Historic England. The church of St Peter is Grade I and known for its 14th-century north chapel, which unusually has an upper floor and an undercroft. Fordham Abbey, a Grade II listed Georgian manor house, was built in the 18th century on the site of the medieval Gilbertine priory, and Grade II houses on Mill Lane include numbers 15 and 22. A Fordham conservation area is designated as well.
Council Tax figures for the Fordham area, which also take in Chippenham, Kennett and Snailwell, put about 18% of homes before 1919 and nearly 30% in 2000 or later. Building picked up sharply from 2021, with around 460 properties added between 2021 and 2025.
Households in Fordham
The 2021 Census counted 2,848 residents and 1,176 households in the parish. Two-thirds own their home, 37% outright and 30% with a mortgage. Social renting is higher than in neighbouring Isleham, at 17% against about 11%, and another 14% rent privately. Detached houses make up 45% of homes and semis 36%.
That mix brings work for owners staying put, for landlords between tenancies and for buyers of new homes. Our pages on wallpapering in Fordham, staircase and woodwork staining and painting for Fordham landlords cover those in more depth.
What Mrs Turner said, and how we work
After her job, Mrs M Turner described Valter and Denes as “exceptionally polite, hardworking and very punctual”. Every Fordham job starts the same way: Graham visits, about 19 miles by road from Landbeach, and you get a written quotation, usually by email, that we keep to. Belinda organises dates and keeps you in the picture.
We've been decorating since 1999. Our 12 decorators hold City & Guilds or NVQ qualifications, we are Dulux Select Decorators and Graham is an associate member of the Painting and Decorating Association. You'll find her review alongside others on our customer reviews page.
