Painter & decorator Waterbeach, from the next village along

Our base at Banworth House is on Waterbeach Road in Landbeach, and Waterbeach itself is about two miles away. For anyone looking for a painter & decorator in Waterbeach, that puts us a few minutes' drive from most homes in the village.

Waterbeach has changed a great deal. The older village centre and the streets around the railway station have cottages and period houses, later estates have filled in around them, and the large development on the former barracks site is adding many more new homes.

Graham visits every job himself and writes every quotation. Belinda then organises the work and keeps you informed, and a team of 12 qualified decorators carries it out, all Dulux Select Decorators.

A Farrow & Ball scheme in Waterbeach

One of our case studies is a Waterbeach home where we carried a Farrow & Ball colour scheme from room to room. The photos are in the Waterbeach Farrow & Ball project.

Farrow & Ball paints behave differently from standard trade emulsions. Estate Emulsion has a very flat, chalky finish that looks lovely but marks more easily, so it suits bedrooms and sitting rooms better than a busy hallway. For woodwork we use their eggshell, with a Zinsser primer underneath on bare timber.

You can buy the paint yourself or ask us to supply it. Either way, Graham works out quantities at the visit. Premium paints cost more per tin, and with a flat finish like Estate Emulsion the preparation underneath shows through, so we spend the time getting the walls right first.

Choosing colours that suit your rooms

Colours shift with the light. A grey that looks warm on a sunny wall can look flat in a north-facing hall. We paint tester patches in several places so you can see a colour in the morning and the evening before you commit.

On other jobs we've used Farrow & Ball Skimming Stone on walls and ceilings with Elephant's Breath eggshell on the window and door frames, and Little Greene Inox through a whole house. Graham can show you those combinations and talk about what might work in your rooms. Our interior decorating page lists everything we cover indoors.

Newer homes in and around the village

If you've moved into one of the newer houses, the walls may still have the developer's paint on them. We fill and sand any settlement cracks, tidy up scuffed skirtings and door frames, and repaint in a finish that can be wiped clean.

Stairwells in three-storey new builds can be awkward to reach. We bring platforms and steps suited to the height, so the top of the wall gets the same care as the bottom, and the stairs stay usable at the end of each day.

A papered feature wall is one way to give a plain room some character. Simon, our wallpaper specialist, hangs everything from lining paper to murals and photo wallpaper, and our wallpapering service page shows the range.

Other work for Waterbeach homes

Beyond painting rooms, we're regularly asked to help with the jobs around them:

  • Exterior walls, render and brickwork
  • Soffits and fascias, painted or stained
  • Kitchen unit painting
  • Floor sanding and oiling by Chris, our wooden floor specialist
  • Plastering and Artex skimming
  • Small building jobs through our master builder

Outside and underfoot

You'll find more on painting the outside of your house and on sanding and oiling wooden floors on their own pages. Both can be quoted alongside indoor decorating.

Outside, we survey before we paint. Where walls have green algae or mould, we jet-wash with an anti-fungal wash first, then repair any cracked render and paint with exterior products suited to the surface.

Getting a quote in Waterbeach

Get in touch by phone on 07854 408573, by WhatsApp or through our enquiry page. Graham will arrange a time to visit that suits you, look over the rooms and send a written quotation, usually by email. Extras are only ever agreed with you in advance.

If your house is on a narrow lane, or on a new estate with allocated spaces, let us know so the van can be parked without blocking anyone in.

During the job, the team tidies up at the end of every day. When it's finished, we walk round with you and put right anything you're not happy with. You don't pay until you are.

How soon can you visit Waterbeach?

Graham arranges each visit at a time that suits you. Being about two miles away makes it easy to fit in, but we'll confirm a day once we've spoken.

Have you worked in Waterbeach before?

Yes. We carried a Farrow & Ball colour scheme through a home in Waterbeach, and the photos are in our case studies.

Do you decorate the newer houses in Waterbeach?

Yes, we decorate newer homes as well as older ones. The work usually involves filling settlement cracks, repainting builder's emulsion and refreshing woodwork.

Can you use Farrow & Ball paint?

Yes. We use Farrow & Ball regularly, including Estate Emulsion and their eggshell for woodwork. We also use Little Greene, Dulux, Tikkurila and Fired Earth.

Is Farrow & Ball Estate Emulsion all right in a hallway?

It has a beautiful flat finish but marks more easily than a washable paint. In a hall that gets a lot of traffic, Graham may suggest a more durable product, perhaps in a matched colour.

Can you sand and oil our floorboards too?

Yes. Chris, our wooden floor specialist, sands, repairs and oils floors. He finished the floors in a house in Haddenham with Osmo tint oil.

Do you have an office in Waterbeach?

No. Our base is Banworth House, Waterbeach Road, in Landbeach, the next village along.

When do I pay?

You don't pay until you're happy with the finished work. The amount will match the written quotation, plus any extras you've agreed in advance.

Graham Halpenny Decorators is a professional, friendly and exceptional company. Belinda and Graham went above and beyond to explain all the possible options to us and find a suitable time to start the job. They are excellent decorators, very patient, skilled, tidy and courteous. The quality of the work is outstanding and the final result is so impressive that after calling them for the first time to redecorate some rooms in my house, I called them again shortly after to redecorate the remaining ones. I would recommend them unreservedly.

Graham and his team did a fantastic job plastering pretty much our entire house. They worked flat out to complete a challenging job in a short amount of time and were always more than happy to give advice. A brilliant job and I would thoroughly recommend them.
