What the parish's houses are like
Council Tax records list roughly 1,440 properties in the parish, which also takes in Aldreth and Hill Row. About 16% were built before 1919, and close to half went up between 1965 and 1999. So the work varies: soft, uneven walls in older cottages, and flatter plaster with well-worn joinery in later homes.
Historic England lists 16 buildings in the parish. The Grade I Church of Holy Trinity dates from the 13th century and was extensively remodelled in the 19th, and the Grade II entries include 57 High Street and 68 Hill Row. There are two conservation areas, Haddenham and Haddenham Hill Row, so outside colour changes on listed or prominent houses are worth checking with East Cambridgeshire District Council.
Our Farrow & Ball and floor job in Haddenham
The house had two phases. Our decorators did the first in Farrow & Ball paints; then Chris, who looks after our wooden floors, took the dining room and living room back to bare timber, packed the joints between boards with a sawdust and filler mix, and oiled them in Osmo's Gold tint, which contains real 24-carat flecks. Photos of every stage are in the Haddenham floor restoration write-up.
Alongside our 12 decorators we work with plasterers, a carpenter and a master builder, so plastering, floor sanding and decorating can share one written quotation.
Owners, landlords and larger family homes
Three-quarters of Haddenham households own their home, according to the 2021 Census, and 43.5% own it outright. Half the homes are detached and a third have four or more bedrooms, which often means long staircases and plenty of woodwork to prepare.
About one household in four rents, and we decorate between tenancies too. Graham visits every job and emails a detailed quotation, then Belinda books the dates and keeps you informed. We've been decorating around Cambridge since 1999, and our interior decorating page explains how a typical job runs.
