Baldock's homes in numbers
Council Tax records list around 4,870 properties in the town. The 1980s and 90s account for about 31%, and the single largest band, some 1,230 homes, was built between 1983 and 1992. Roughly one home in four predates the Second World War.
The 2021 Census, taken across the Baldock East and Baldock Town wards, counted 4,680 households. About a third live in semi-detached houses, 28% in terraces, 17% in detached homes and 19% in flats. Two thirds own their home, and the rest are split fairly evenly between private renting and social housing.
Listed buildings and the conservation area
Historic England lists 104 buildings in Baldock: one at Grade I, eight at Grade II*, including Butterfield House, Halford House and 13 Whitehorse Street, and 95 at Grade II. The town also has a conservation area, and the River Ivel rises from springs here.
For listed homes and anything inside the conservation area, we'd suggest checking with North Hertfordshire District Council before changing exterior colours or window details. Inside, older walls often need lining paper and a breathable paint such as Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion.
Working in Baldock from Landbeach
The drive takes about 40 minutes, so we plan visits and working days to make the most of each trip. Graham still visits every job before quoting, and Belinda keeps you informed once it's booked.
We can take on interior decorating, exterior house painting and wallpaper hanging here, along with plastering, floor sanding and commercial work. Everything is set out in a written quotation, and you don't pay until you're happy with the finished work.
