What Baldock gardens usually need
On a semi, it's often a long fence down each side and a gate to the side passage. A terrace may only have a shed and the back fence, while the town's 800 or so detached homes tend to have more boundary to cover. Posts and gravel boards fail first and get a full coat.
Sheds are treated like small buildings, with the door edges, window frames and bottom boards given the most attention. If the roof felt is letting water into the timber, we'll mention it.
Choosing a finish and a dry spell
Opaque garden paint gives a solid colour and evens out patchy boards. Stain lets the grain show and is easier to recoat. We paint small test patches so you can see colours against your planting for a few days before choosing.
Baldock garden timber is best painted between late spring and early autumn. We watch the forecast and move the date rather than paint damp timber, and only paint a neighbour's side with their agreement. Algae is treated the same way as on a mould-affected Cambridge exterior we cleaned.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
In a Baldock garden we cover paving and plants, then clean off algae and moss, gently on soft rough-sawn panels and with an anti-fungal wash where the wood can take it. Sheds and gates have flaking paint scraped and sanded, latches and hinges masked or removed, and every face finished, including the top and bottom edges. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
