A small village with a long history
The parish lies in West Suffolk, east of Cambridge. Historic England lists 31 buildings within it, two at Grade II*: Thatchers Hall and the Church of All Saints. Part of the village is a conservation area, so older houses and their outside colours are worth treating with some care.
The census headline of 2,336 residents is misleading for anyone thinking about homes. The parish includes HMP Highpoint, and 1,254 of those people lived in communal establishments. About 1,082 lived in ordinary households, which is the real size of the village.
What a painter and decorator in Hundon is asked to do
Council Tax records point to a mostly mid-century and older housing stock. Roughly a fifth of homes predate 1919, and close to 60% were built between 1945 and 1982. That mix brings sash windows and soft old plaster in the older houses, and textured Artex ceilings and original 1960s and 1970s woodwork in the post-war houses.
With so many detached houses, exterior painting and fence and shed work make up a good share of the enquiries we would expect, alongside plastering and skimming in the post-war homes.
Distance from our base
We will be straightforward about the distance. Hundon is about 26 miles by road from Landbeach, roughly a 41-minute drive, which is a fair drive. It suits jobs of a few days or more, or several pieces of work combined. We have no office in Suffolk, and Graham travels out himself for the visit. Customers in Saffron Walden have reviewed our work, and Haverhill is the nearest town we cover.
