Painter & decorator Girton
Girton sits on the north-west edge of Cambridge, close to where the A14 meets the M11, and it's about five miles from our base in Landbeach. As a painter & decorator covering Girton, we reach most homes in the village with a short run along the A14.
Girton College, on Huntingdon Road, is the landmark most people know. The village itself is largely twentieth-century housing, much of it detached and semi-detached with gardens, alongside some older properties.
That mix shapes the work we quote for. Larger family homes tend to bring whole-floor or whole-house schemes and plenty of exterior timber, while smaller houses and flats are more often a room or two, or a quick refresh before a sale or a new tenancy.
Whole-house redecoration in larger homes
Bigger houses often get decorated one room at a time over many years, which leaves a mix of colours and finishes. Some customers prefer to do the whole house in one go. With a team of 12 decorators we can put more people on a larger job, and Belinda coordinates the plasterer, carpenter and decorators so the trades follow one another in the right order.
Our whole-house renovation in Cambridgeshire shows how that works: nicotine-stained paper stripped, Artex ceilings skimmed, new coving and skirtings fitted, then walls in Little Greene Inox and woodwork in Tikkurila satin. The interior painting and decorating service covers the painting side, and our plastering work is done by the plasterers we work with.
Doing several rooms at once also makes colour easier. Graham can help you plan a scheme that flows from hall to landing to bedrooms, and we'll paint tester patches in different rooms so you can see how one colour changes with the light from room to room.
Exterior painting and timber
A detached house has a lot of exterior timber: fascias, soffits, porches and window frames. Once paint starts to flake, water gets in and the wood begins to rot. We survey first, have our carpenter repair or replace what needs it, then prime and paint.
Brick, render and masonry are jet-washed with an anti-fungal treatment where there's mould or algae, then painted with exterior products suited to each surface. The exterior house painting page has the details.
Gardens bring their own timber: fences, gates, sheds and summerhouses. These can be painted or stained in the same visit, and our page on garden fence and shed painting covers the products and preparation.
If you let a property in Girton
Landlords often need rooms turned round between tenants at short notice. One Cambridge landlord, Thomas Horsten, needed a room ready for viewings that weekend. He wrote that Graham came out the same day to quote, and the room was stripped, made good and repainted the following day. We can't promise that on every job, but we do understand the pressure of a letting deadline.
Hard-wearing, washable emulsions make sense in rented rooms. For bigger lettings, our commercial decorating team has also handled student accommodation, including shared flats for JR Pickstocks in Colchester.
Work we can point you to
There isn't a Girton job in our case studies. The nearest examples are around Cambridge, including the 38 rooms we decorated at Westminster College in central Cambridge to the college's own schedule.
Our reviews page has comments from customers across Cambridge and further afield, and many mention the decorators by name.
What to expect from the first visit
Phone 07854 408573 or send a WhatsApp message, and Graham will arrange a time that suits you. He'll walk through the rooms or round the outside with you, ask about colours and finishes, and note anything that needs repairing first.
A detailed written quotation follows, usually by email. If you have a driveway the van can use, mention it; otherwise Graham will check the parking while he's there. Once the work starts, the team tidies each day and walks round the finished job with you at the end.
Belinda keeps you informed while the job is under way. If something unexpected turns up, such as rot behind a fascia board, Graham explains it and agrees any extra cost with you before anything is done. You don't pay until you're happy with the finished work.
