Painter & decorator Milton, two miles down the road
Milton is roughly two miles from Banworth House in Landbeach, so it's one of the nearest villages we work in. For anyone after a painter & decorator in Milton, the short distance mainly means it's easy for Graham to call round, look at the job, and pop back to check a detail without a long drive.
The village has an older core with cottages and period houses, and a lot of later housing built over the second half of the twentieth century and more recently. Milton Country Park sits on the edge of the village, and the A14 and A10 meet close by.
Redecorating a newer house for the first time
Plenty of homes have walls that still carry the builder's paint. That first coat is usually a thin contract emulsion that marks easily and doesn't wipe clean. Repainting it properly means filling the hairline cracks that appear as a new house dries out and settles, sanding the filler flush and then using a paint that will cope with everyday life.
For busy rooms we often suggest Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion, which is washable, breathable and touches up well once it has cured. Dulux trade paints are another sound choice. Graham will talk you through the options when he visits, and the interior painting service page explains what's included.
Woodwork in a newer house needs attention too. Skirtings and door frames pick up dents and scuffs, and the original finish is often thin. We fill the dents, sand everything to give the new paint something to grip, and finish in a satin or eggshell. On one whole-house job we used Tikkurila white satinwood, which keeps a clean, even sheen.
Older Milton homes: paper, Artex and woodwork
The older houses throw up different jobs. Layers of wallpaper need stripping, cracked ceilings need filling, and dated Artex comes up a lot. Our plasterer Lewis has skimmed Artex ceilings smooth for customers in Cambridge, and we can arrange the plastering before decorating so you deal with one firm throughout.
Stripping several layers of old paper can expose blown plaster, old water stains or nicotine marks. We stain-block those with Zinsser so they don't bleed through the new paint, and hang lining paper where a wall is sound but uneven.
Doors, banisters and staircases in older properties are often worth staining rather than painting. A customer in Fordham, Mrs M Turner, wrote about "the staining on the staircase and doors" after Valter and Denes finished her house. Our page on staining and varnishing woodwork covers the process.
Fences, sheds and the outside of the house
Garden timber takes a beating from the weather. We paint and stain sheds, fences and gates, and Denes painted a shed for John Dunn in Cambridge, who told us they were "both delighted with the way the shed has come out."
For the house itself, we survey first, repair cracked render or rotten timber, wash down with anti-fungal treatment, and then paint the masonry, soffits and fascias. There's more on our outside painting page.
Examples of our work
We don't have a Milton project written up yet. You can see examples from around Cambridge in our gallery of finished rooms, and our customer reviews include people in Cambridge, Ely, Fordham and Saffron Walden.
If you're thinking about Artex in particular, the Cambridge Artex skimming job is worth a look. The client wanted rid of dated textured ceilings, and afterwards commented on how clean and tidy Lewis left the house.
What happens after you get in touch
The steps are the same for a single bedroom or a whole house:
- Call 07854 408573 or send us a WhatsApp message
- Graham visits at a time that suits you
- A written quotation follows, usually by email
- We agree a start date
- The team tidies every day and walks round the finished job with you
- You pay once you're happy with the finished work
Before we arrive
Let us know about parking on your drive or street, and anything the team should know, such as pets or an alarm. We bring our own dust sheets, steps and tools. If you're supplying the paint, Graham will check quantities with you so nothing runs short mid-job.
Belinda organises the project once it's booked and keeps you up to date. If anything changes on site, you hear about it before any extra work is done.
