Rooflines and timber on 1980s and 1990s houses
Houses built in Milton's late-1980s expansion are now well into their fourth decade, which is often when fascias, soffits and bargeboards show their age first. Paint lifts at the joints, and dirt and algae settle on the shaded side. We jet wash with an anti-fungal wash, let the surfaces dry, scrape back anything loose and prime bare timber before the finish coats.
Graham walks round the outside before quoting and notes any rotten sections. Where timber needs replacing rather than filling, our carpenter can do it so the repair and the painting are booked as one job.
Painting a house in Milton's conservation area
Historic England's records include a Milton conservation area, and the parish has 16 listed buildings, among them Milton House and the Parish Church of All Saints, both Grade II*. If your home sits inside the conservation area, it is sensible to check with South Cambridgeshire District Council before changing an outside colour.
We can paint test patches on a discreet section of wall so you can see a shade in daylight first. The house painting page describes our survey and repair work in more detail.

How we approach exterior painting
For a detached Milton house we start with a walk-round survey, then anti-fungal jet washing and drying time. Loose paint is scraped and sanded, bare timber primed, and masonry cracks filled with exterior filler. We mask windows, paths and plants, paint the roofline first and work down, and plan everything for dry, mild weather. The full method, products and FAQs are on our exterior painting page.
