Colour in a conservation village
Part of the parish lies in the Fen Ditton conservation area, and Baits Bite Lock has its own. If your house is listed, or you want a strong change on a street-facing wall, ask South Cambridgeshire District Council first. Before the whole house is done, we brush out a sample on a quiet corner of wall and leave it for you to look at in different weather.
Older masonry and lime render need breathable paints that let moisture out. Bare facing brick is a different question, and Graham will give you a straight answer about whether to paint it. Our brick painting page goes into the detail.
What the survey and preparation cover
Graham walks round every elevation first, noting blown render, cracked masonry, soft timber and failed putty, and all of it goes into the written quotation. Anything bigger than a small patch is passed to our master builder or carpenter.
Green growth is jet washed off with an anti-fungal wash and the walls left to dry. Fascias, soffits and gutters are painted in one run so access is paid for once, and our soffit and fascia painting page explains why they matter.

How we approach exterior painting
On a Fen Ditton house we start with the anti-fungal wash, then scrape and sand loose paint, fill render cracks and cut out minor rot. Bare timber is primed before undercoat and top coat, and masonry gets a breathable finish. We work in dry, mild weather and stop if rain threatens rather than risk the paint. The full method, products and FAQs are on our exterior painting page.
