Exterior painting for Fulbourn's houses
There are around 870 detached houses in the parish, which is 40% of all homes. A detached house has four exposed elevations, so the side that gets the weather often needs more scraping and filling than the front. Graham walks round every side before he quotes.
We jet wash with an anti-fungal wash where algae has taken hold, scrape back loose paint, repair cracks in render and prime any bare timber on fascias and sills. Masonry paint goes on only once the wall is completely dry.
Colours in the Fulbourn conservation areas
The parish contains two conservation areas, Fulbourn itself and Fulbourn Hospital. If your house falls inside one, it is sensible to check with South Cambridgeshire District Council before a strong change of colour, especially on a listed building.
Some older farmhouses here follow the usual Cambridgeshire pattern of a symmetrical three-bay front in grey brick. Bare facing brick like that is usually best left unpainted, and Graham will say so honestly. The timber around it is a different matter, and our sash window page covers older windows.

How we approach exterior painting
Survey first, with repairs listed in the quotation. Then anti-fungal washing, drying time, scraping, filling and priming before two finish coats. We mask windows, paths and planting, plan exterior work for drier months and keep an eye on the forecast so we never paint onto damp masonry. The full method, products and FAQs are on our exterior painting page.
