Painting the outside of a Sawston house
The 2021 Census counted 1,448 semi-detached homes in the parish and 690 detached ones. On a semi, the exposed gable and the rear often show algae, cracked render or flaking masonry paint well before the front does.
Graham surveys every side and lists repairs in the quotation. We jet wash with an anti-fungal wash, let the walls dry, fill cracks with exterior filler and apply a breathable masonry paint. Soffits, fascias and gutters can be done in the same visit.
Flint, brick and the conservation area
Flint is common in Sawston's older buildings because the local chalk and clay are full of it. Flint and old brick walls are rarely painted, and Graham will tell you honestly if leaving them bare is the better choice. The timber around them still needs looking after.
Sawston has a conservation area, and if you live inside it, ask South Cambridgeshire District Council before a strong colour change on walls or joinery. For older windows, see our sash window restoration service.

How we approach exterior painting
We start with a walk-round survey and a written quotation. Then anti-fungal washing, a proper drying period, scraping, filling and priming before two finish coats. Windows, paths and planting are masked. We book exterior work for drier months and pause if rain or frost is forecast. The full method, products and FAQs are on our exterior painting page.
