Keeping a sound kitchen in Sawston
About 885 Sawston households own their home with a mortgage, and more than 1,100 own outright. For owners like these, painting the existing units is a smaller and calmer project than a new kitchen. Nothing is ripped out, and the worktops, sink and appliances stay put.
Around 200 local homes were built between 1983 and 1992 and another 200 from 1993 to 1999. If your kitchen is original to one of those houses, Graham will check the doors at the visit to see how they will take paint.
Sprayed or brushed?
Long runs of flat doors suit our Graco Ultra cordless airless sprayer, which leaves no brush marks. In a smaller kitchen the masking can take longer than the painting, so a good brush and roller finish is often the better option. Plenty of kitchens get a mix of both.
We use a proper woodwork paint, eggshell or satin, from makers such as Tikkurila, Farrow & Ball or Dulux. Our main kitchen page has more on colours.

How we approach kitchen cabinet painting
Handles come off and doors are labelled so each one goes back in place. Every surface is degreased, especially near the hob, then sanded with Mirka dust-free sanders and primed with a Zinsser primer to suit the old finish. Worktops, tiles and floors are masked before any paint goes on. The full method, products and FAQs are on our kitchen cabinet painting page.
