A new colour on a kitchen that still works
Council Tax records date about 410 homes in the parish to 1965 to 1982 and roughly 220 more to 1983 to 1999. Whatever their age, kitchens in those houses that are built from solid timber or MDF can usually be repainted. That keeps the carcasses, worktops and appliances where they are and changes how the room looks.
Graham checks the door material and old finish at the visit. If a surface is unlikely to hold paint, he'll tell you then rather than after we've started.
Sprayed or brushed finishes in Great Shelford kitchens
Larger kitchens with flat slab doors suit our Graco Ultra cordless airless handheld sprayer, which leaves no brush marks once everything is masked. Shaker-style doors in a period house often look better hand-finished, and many kitchens get a mix of the two.
We use woodwork paints from Tikkurila, Farrow & Ball and Dulux in eggshell or satin. Timber worktops can be oiled with Osmo at the same time, as at the Old Telephone Exchange in Fulbourn. Built-in dressers and alcove shelving can be done alongside; see our interior decorating page.

How we approach kitchen cabinet painting
Doors are labelled and taken off, or masked in place, and every surface is degreased with extra attention around the hob. We sand with Mirka dust-free sanders, fill chips, prime with a Zinsser primer suited to the old finish, then apply two coats of eggshell or satin. Worktops, floors and appliances are sheeted before any spraying. The full method, products and FAQs are on our kitchen cabinet painting page.
