Fulbourn kitchens worth keeping
Roughly a quarter of properties in the village were built between 1983 and 1999. If your kitchen is original to a house of that age, the carcasses are probably still sound. Repainting the doors, end panels and plinths changes the room without ripping anything out.
Most households here own their home: 42.7% outright and another 22.8% with a mortgage. For many of them, a painted kitchen is a sensible way to refresh the room without the cost and upheaval of a new one.
Worktops and dark colours, Fulbourn style
In the Old Telephone Exchange we oiled the kitchen worktops and beams with Osmo, and Valter did a perfect job. Oil soaks into the timber, so it can be topped up later without sanding everything back.
The trim in that conversion went in Dulux Night Jewels 2, and dark shades like it suit base units and islands well. We will paint a test patch on one of your doors so you can see it in your own light first. Our main kitchen cabinet painting page explains spraying versus brushing.

How we approach kitchen cabinet painting
Doors are labelled and handles removed. Every surface is degreased, sanded with Mirka dust-free sanders and primed with a Zinsser primer suited to the old finish. Large runs of flat doors suit the Graco Ultra cordless sprayer; smaller kitchens are brushed and rolled. We keep the sink and fridge usable where we can. The full method, products and FAQs are on our kitchen cabinet painting page.
