Fulbourn's period windows
Roughly 9% of local homes were built before 1919, according to Council Tax records. Add 56 listed buildings and two conservation areas, and there is a steady handful of houses where the original windows matter to the look of the street.
We prepare, repair-fill and repaint them. Paint is scraped back to a sound edge, cracks and open joints are filled, and bare timber is primed before eggshell or satin goes on. Sills and bottom rails get extra attention because they hold standing water.
When the carpenter comes in
Broken cords, rotten timber and loose sashes are joinery rather than decorating. Our carpenter handles those, and we plan the repair and the paintwork together so the finish is not spoilt by a second visit.
If your house is listed or sits in the conservation area, check with South Cambridgeshire District Council before changing the window colour. Our main sash window page has more on finishes.

How we approach sash window restoration
Graham lists each window and its condition in the quotation. We sand with Mirka dust-free sanders, which matters where old paint may contain lead. Bare timber gets a Zinsser primer. Sashes are worked up and down during the job so every face is painted and none sets shut overnight. The full method, products and FAQs are on our sash window restoration page.
