Longer boundaries around Great Shelford gardens
Detached houses often have fences on three sides and a gate at the side passage, so a garden job here can mean a long run of panels and posts. The posts and gravel boards at the base usually fail first, so we give them a proper coat. Sheds need the cladding, door, frames and barge boards done, with the bottom boards given extra attention.
Where it suits the timber, we clean with a jet wash and an anti-fungal wash, using a gentler approach on rough-sawn panels. The wood then dries out fully before any finish goes on.
Colours, products and timing
Solid garden paints suit a shed you'd like to make a feature of; stains let the grain show on fences and gates. We paint small test patches so you can see the colour against your planting for a few days, and Graham recommends a product that suits the timber.
Dry weather matters, so late spring to early autumn is the usual window. If the house is due a repaint too, our exterior painting service can be done in the same visit. John Dunn in Cambridge was delighted with his shed after Denes finished it, and his review is on our reviews page.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
We flag rotten posts or boards for our carpenter or master builder first. Then algae and dirt are cleaned off, flaking paint on sheds and gates scraped and sanded, and paving, plants and cars protected. Gates are painted on every face including the end grain. Long fence runs may be sprayed with our Graco only if overspray can be controlled. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
