Gardens behind Fen Ditton's houses
With 135 detached and 139 semi-detached homes in the parish, many gardens have boundaries on two or three sides. Terraced homes, about a fifth, often have narrower plots, where we may need to carry everything through the house.
Bottom boards and gravel boards fail first, so they get extra care. Rotten posts or boards are flagged for our carpenter before we paint.
Cleaning, products and timing
We remove algae with an anti-fungal wash, jet washing sound timber and scrubbing rougher panels by hand, then let everything dry. Stain suits fences where you want the grain to show; garden paint gives sheds a uniform colour. Test patches come first.
Book for late spring to early autumn, when timber is dry. Our fence painting page covers spraying long runs, and metal gates and railings have their own railing and gate painting page.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
We clear and cover plants and paving, clean off algae and dirt, and let the timber dry. Loose paint on sheds and gates is scraped back and sanded smooth. Every face of a gate is painted, edges included, and fences and sheds get two coats in settled weather. The garden is tidied before we leave each day. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
