Painting and decorating Teversham's 1980s homes
Of roughly 1,290 properties on the Council Tax list for the parish, about 730 were built between 1983 and 1992. That one decade shapes most of the decorating here: walls that are generally true, softwood skirtings and doors with thirty-odd years of knocks, and kitchens and windows that may still be original.
Older buildings are thin on the ground. Only about 20 homes predate 1900, and Historic England lists eight buildings in the parish, including the Grade II* Church of All Saints, Teversham Hall and Manor Farmhouse. There is also a Teversham conservation area, so if you live inside it, outside colour changes are worth raising with South Cambridgeshire District Council first.
Landlords, tenants and owners in the village
The 2021 Census counted 1,225 households in Teversham, and 404 of them, about a third, rent privately. Roughly another 15% rent from a social landlord. For letting agents that means steady end-of-tenancy work: making good fixings, stain-blocking marks and repainting in a washable matt so the next tenant moves into a clean flat.
Flats make up just over a fifth of homes, almost all purpose-built. The rest is a fairly even spread of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses, so sheds, fences and fascias come up as often as living rooms. See our pages on decorating inside the home and exterior house painting.
How a Teversham job runs
From Landbeach it's about 8 miles by road. Part of the parish, in the north-west, became Cambridge City Airport from the 1930s as Marshall's business grew, and a housing development around 2005 added many new residents.
Graham visits every job himself and sends a detailed written quotation, usually by email. After that, Belinda books the dates and keeps you posted. Fulbourn is the next village along, and our Old Telephone Exchange project there shows the finish we aim for.
