Listed buildings and the Royston conservation area
Historic England lists 116 buildings in the parish, four of them Grade I, including 18 Melbourn Street and 23 Kneesworth Street, while Royston Manor House is Grade II*. The Royston conservation area covers part of the town, and North Hertfordshire District Council is the planning authority.
History runs deep here. James VI and I built a palace and hunting lodge after a visit in 1603, and the county boundary with Cambridgeshire ran through the middle of the town until 1896. If you live in one of the older buildings, check with the council before changing original finishes or exterior colours.
