Skimming textured ceilings
The 1955 to 1964 band alone holds about 810 properties, and the 1970s more again. Lewis, our plasterer, or the master plasterer we work with, skims over the old texture to leave a flat surface. It's normally quicker and much less disruptive than replacing the ceiling.
One Cambridge customer, tired of their Artex ceilings, had them skimmed by Lewis and remarked on how clean and tidy he left the house. Our Artex case study has the photos.
Cracks, older walls and making good
Ceiling cracks in post-war houses range from hairlines our decorators can fill to deeper splits that need a plasterer. If a crack keeps returning, it may point to movement or a leak, and we'll tell you rather than hide the problem.
Royston's 640 or so pre-1900 homes may have lath and plaster that comes away when old wallpaper is stripped. We'll show you what's there and agree any extra before re-skimming. The decorating then follows straight on, as described on our interior decorating page.

How we approach plastering
Floors and furniture are sheeted and light fittings taken down before the plasterer arrives. Once the skim has dried out fully, we sand it lightly with Mirka dust-free sanders and apply a thinned mist coat, filling anything it shows up. Water marks are sealed with Zinsser. Then two full coats, all under one written quotation. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
