Late-1960s ceilings
Lewis, our plasterer, skims textured ceilings with a new smooth surface instead of taking them down. We clear or sheet the room, take down fittings, prepare the Artex so the skim bonds, and protect floors before he starts. When it has dried, our decorators sand, mist-coat and paint it, all under one quotation.
One Cambridge customer who was fed up with Artex had their ceilings skimmed by Lewis and remarked on how clean and tidy he left the house. Photos of that ceiling are in our Artex skimming case study.
Lath and plaster in the older town
About 300 Buntingford properties predate 1900. Lath and plaster in houses that age can be loose behind old paper, and stripping sometimes reveals it. We show you, explain whether a skim or lining paper is right, and agree any extra before carrying on. In a listed building, check with East Hertfordshire District Council before replacing historic plaster.

How we approach plastering
After the skim, the plaster dries out fully. We take off nibs with a Mirka dust-free sander, then apply a mist coat of thinned emulsion, which soaks in and highlights any dips. Those are filled and spot-sanded before two finish coats. New coving, if you want it, is hung after the plastering and before the final paint. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
