Artex in Saffron Walden's post-war homes
Council Tax records show around 1,410 homes in the parish from 1973 to 1982 alone, the largest single band. Many of those ceilings have been textured at some point. Skimming over Artex is quicker and far less disruptive than taking a ceiling down, and Lewis, our plasterer, or the master plasterer we work with, does it once the room is sheeted and fittings are off.
If you're unsure what your textured coating contains, have it tested before anyone sands or scrapes it. See the Artex skimming case study for a finished ceiling.
Older plaster in the town centre
About 1,070 homes predate 1900. Lath and plaster in houses of that age is often patched and loose behind old wallpaper, and sometimes a skim is the right fix; other times careful filling and lining paper is enough. Graham decides which at the survey, so you don't pay for more plastering than the wall needs. In listed buildings, check with Uttlesford District Council before replacing historic plaster.
Plaster and paint go into one quotation, and our interior decorating team finishes the room.

How we approach plastering
We sheet the room, take down fittings and protect the floor, then the ceiling or wall is skimmed. Once the plaster has dried out fully, we sand lightly with Mirka dust-free sanders and apply a mist coat of thinned emulsion, which seals the surface and shows up dips. Those are filled before two full coats of your chosen colour. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
