Gardens behind Saffron Walden's semis and detached houses
Semi-detached and detached houses together make up about 58% of the town, so many gardens have fences on two or three sides and a side gate. Posts and gravel boards fail first where rain splashes back, and shed doors and window frames let water in at the edges, so those get a full coat.
Where it suits the timber, we clean with a jet wash and an anti-fungal wash, and take a gentler approach on soft, rough-sawn panels. The wood dries out fully before anything goes on.
Choosing a finish
Solid garden paints give a shed an even colour across weathered boards; stains let the grain show and are easier to recoat on fences. Graham recommends a product at the visit, and we paint small test patches so you can see them against the planting.
Late spring to early autumn is the usual window. Since Saffron Walden is about 33 minutes from our base, we often combine garden timber with exterior house painting in one visit. Fiona Flynn's review on our reviews page mentions how tidy and respectful the team was.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
We flag rotten boards or posts for our carpenter or master builder, then clean off algae and dirt, scrape and sand flaking paint on sheds and gates, and protect paving, plants and cars. Gates are finished on every face including the end grain. Long fence runs may be sprayed with our Graco only where overspray can be controlled. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
