Fences between Sawston semis and terraces
Semis and terraces together make up 71% of local homes. On those plots a fence usually runs down at least one side of the garden, and the panels in shade are the first to stay damp and turn green.
We clean off algae with an anti-fungal wash where it suits the timber, gently on rough-sawn panels, then let it dry. Posts and gravel boards get a proper coat, as they tend to fail first. Please check which fences are yours before the visit.
Sheds, gates and summerhouses
A shed is more like a small building than a fence. The cladding, door, frames and barge boards all need doing, and the bottom boards nearest the ground usually need the most work. Gates get every face painted, including the top and bottom edges.
A solid colour hides weathered boards; a stain lets the grain show and is easier to recoat later. Graham will suggest what suits yours. If the house needs painting too, see our Sawston exterior painting page.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
We clean, scrape and sand, protect paving and planting, and flag any rotten boards or posts before starting. Coats go on dry timber in dry weather, ideally late spring to early autumn. On a long fence run we may use the Graco sprayer, but only where overspray can be properly controlled. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
