Terraces, semis and garden timber
Terraced homes, 36% of the total, tend to have narrower gardens with fence runs on both sides. Semis and detached houses add side gates and often bigger sheds. Each needs something different: fences are about volume, gates about every face and edge, and sheds about the cladding, trims and bottom boards.
If a fence is shared, check which side belongs to you. We'll only paint a neighbour's face with their agreement.
Cleaning before colour
Algae and dirt stop a finish soaking in, so we clean first, with an anti-fungal wash where the timber can take it and a gentler method on rough-sawn panels. Flaking paint on sheds and gates is scraped and sanded, and rotten boards are flagged before work starts.
Graham will suggest a solid garden paint or a stain that lets the grain show. If the house needs attention too, our Haverhill exterior painting page covers walls, fascias and doors.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
We'd plan the garden for a dry week, clean and dry the timber, and cover paving and plants. Posts and gravel boards get a proper coat because they fail first. Gate latches are masked, hinges cleaned of loose rust, and shed door edges painted. Spraying long fences is only done where overspray can be contained. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
