Terrace gardens and detached plots
Terraced houses, the town's most common type, tend to have narrower gardens with fences on both sides and a gate at the back. That's a lot of panel for a small plot, so colour matters: darker shades can make the boundary recede into the planting and the garden feel larger.
Detached and semi-detached houses make up around 42% of homes and usually have longer fence runs. On those, posts and gravel boards fail first and get extra attention.
Getting the timber ready
Algae and dirt come off first, using an anti-fungal wash where the timber suits it and a gentler method on soft, rough-sawn panels. Any shed or gate with peeling paint is scraped back and sanded smooth. The wood then has to dry out completely before any finish goes on.
If the outside of the house is due too, our exterior painting service can be booked alongside, so the shed and the front door match.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
We'd protect paving and plants, clean and dry the timber, and seal end grain on gate edges and fence post tops. Opaque garden paint suits a shed you want as a feature; a stain suits fences where the grain should show. Long runs may be sprayed with our Graco only where overspray can be controlled, otherwise everything is brushed. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
