Cleaning and drying the wood
Before any finish goes on, the wood has to be clean and dry. We remove algae and dirt with an anti-fungal wash where the timber can take it, use a softer approach on rough-sawn panels, and allow time to dry out properly. On painted sheds and gates, anything flaking is scraped off and the edges sanded smooth.
Rot is the one thing paint can't fix. If a post, rail or bottom board has gone soft, our carpenter or master builder can replace it before we start.
Sheds, summerhouses and gates in Bottisham
A shed is painted like a small building, with cladding, door edges, window frames and trims all done and extra attention on the bottom boards. Gates get every face, including the top and bottom edges, with latches and hinges masked. See our shed and summerhouse painting page for products and colours.
Darker colours help a fence sit back into planting, and lighter ones brighten a shady corner. We'll paint small test areas so you can see how they look over a few days.

How we approach shed, fence & gate painting
At the visit Graham notes each fence run, shed and gate and suggests a product for each. On the day we cover paving, plants and anything nearby, wash and dry the wood, and brush stain or paint well into the grain. We apply enough coats to cover evenly, with extra on end grain and bottom boards that sit in splashback. The full method, products and FAQs are on our shed, fence & gate painting page.
