A small town with a lot of new homes
Council Tax records count about 3,440 properties in Buntingford. Almost 40% were built from 2000 onwards, and at least 1,270 since 2009, with the busiest years between 2016 and 2019. Before that, the late 1960s saw another spurt: 770 homes date from 1965 to 1972.
New homes need different decorating from old ones. Fresh plaster in a new build benefits from a mist coat and patient filling as the house settles, and many owners want to replace plain builders' finishes with a colour scheme of their own. Our interior decorating page explains how we approach that.
Georgian and medieval buildings
The older town is small but notable. Buntingford has 98 listed buildings, one at Grade I and four at Grade II*, including Victoria House, 66 High Street and The Almhouses. St Peter's Church is an almost unique 17th-century brick church from the Puritan era. There is also a conservation area, so exterior changes there may need a word with East Hertfordshire District Council first.
Around 300 homes predate 1900. For those we take care with soft plaster and old joinery, using lining paper where walls are uneven and Zinsser primers on bare timber.
Owners, families and how we work
Buntingford is a town of owners: 74.9% of households own their home, and the largest single group, 39%, are paying off a mortgage. Homes are on the large side too, with 31% having four or more bedrooms.
Graham visits before quoting and sends a detailed written quotation, usually by email. Because of the distance, we plan Buntingford jobs so the team can work full days on site, and Belinda keeps you informed throughout.
