Two very different kinds of house
Council Tax records count about 4,040 properties in Godmanchester. Around 11% were built before 1919, and roughly 400 of those before 1900. More than 100 of the listed buildings are private homes, many of them timber-framed Tudor houses, with Farm Hall, Tudor House and Island Hall all listed at Grade II*. The older streets fall within two conservation areas, Earning Street and Post Street.
The other side of the town is much newer. Close to a third of homes date from 1983 to 1999, and about 35% from 2000 onwards, including around 250 recorded for 2023 alone. These are the houses where we paint tired hallways, respray kitchens and repaint fascias that have reached their second or third cycle.
Our work as a painter and decorator in Godmanchester
The 2021 Census counted 7,886 residents in 3,462 households. About a third of homes are detached and 28% semi-detached, while one in five is a flat. Owner-occupiers make up 63% of households, and around 17% rent privately.
In the period houses we go slowly, testing paints and taking advice where a building is listed. Our wallpapering and sash window work is often most useful there. In the newer estates the jobs are more often interior decorating and exterior repaints on brick and timber.
