Skimming over Artex
A textured ceiling dates a room quickly. Lewis, our plasterer, skims over it to give a smooth, modern surface, which is usually quicker and much less disruptive than taking the ceiling down. We clear or cover the room, take down fittings and protect the floor before he starts. Our Artex skimming project shows the before and after.
Older walls and ceilings
In the older houses, stripping wallpaper can reveal lath and plaster that the paper was holding together. Sometimes a skim is needed; sometimes careful filling and lining paper are enough. Graham decides at the visit so you only pay for the plastering the room needs.
If you live in a listed building, check with Huntingdonshire District Council before replacing historic plaster. Cracks that keep coming back can point to movement or a leak, and we will tell you if we think so.

How we approach plastering
Once the skim is on, the plaster dries fully before decorating. We sand it lightly with Mirka dust-free sanders, apply a thinned mist coat to seal it and reveal any dips, then fill and spot-sand before two full coats. Water-stained ceilings are sealed with Zinsser stain block so marks do not bleed through. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
