Artex in overspill-era homes
The 1965 to 1972 band alone accounts for about 2,670 St Neots properties, covering the town's London overspill years. If your ceiling still has its original texture, Lewis or our master plasterer can skim it smooth, which is usually quicker and far less disruptive than taking the ceiling down.
We protect floors and furniture before work starts. Our Artex skimming project shows the finished result.
Plastering cracks, older walls and making good
A fine crack can be raked out and filled. A deep split, or one that returns after filling, may be a sign of movement or a leak, and we'll say so rather than paint over it.
The town's roughly 980 pre-1919 homes may have lath and plaster or lime walls. Stripping old paper can expose weak areas, and Graham decides whether skimming or lining is the right answer.

How we approach plastering
Fresh plaster is left to dry fully, then nibs and trowel marks are taken off with a Mirka dust-free sander. A thinned mist coat seals the surface and shows up any dips, which are filled before two full coats go on. New coving, where wanted, goes up after the skim and before the final paint. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
