Terraces, semis and detached homes
With 3,719 terraced houses in the 2021 Census, St Neots has a lot of front elevations sitting side by side. Colour matters more on a terrace, so we can paint test patches on a discreet section first. Detached houses, 27.7% of homes, have four exposed elevations and a longer roofline.
Graham surveys first, noting cracked masonry, blown render, rotten timber and gaps where water could get in. Those repairs go into the written quotation, and our master builder or carpenter can take on larger ones.
House painting in the conservation area and on listed fronts
The St Neots conservation area and the parish's 156 listed buildings mean some exteriors need a cautious approach. Before painting bare brick or changing a front's colour, check with Huntingdonshire District Council. Masonry paint on older walls has to let moisture out rather than trapping it.
Shaded walls collect algae and mould, which we kill with an anti-fungal wash before painting; the exterior decorating case study shows a mould-affected Cambridge house before and after.

How we approach exterior painting
On a St Neots exterior we survey, jet wash with an anti-fungal treatment, and leave the wall to dry thoroughly. Loose paint is scraped and sanded, render and masonry repaired, and bare timber primed and undercoated. Windows, doors, paths and plants are masked before finish coats, and soffits, fascias and gutters are done in the same visit. The full method, products and FAQs are on our exterior painting page.
