Exterior House Painting in Papworth Everard

Papworth Everard has a conservation area as well as streets of modern family houses, and exterior painting means something different in each. About 70% of the village's homes are detached or semi-detached, so most have several exposed sides.

Exterior house painting on Papworth's newer homes

With most properties built since 1983, many Papworth houses are facing brick that has never been painted. On those, exterior work usually means the timber: fascias, soffits, barge boards, porches, front doors and garage doors. Those pieces take the weather hardest and need a fresh protective coat regularly.

Where a house has rendered panels or painted brick, we jet wash with an anti-fungal wash, scrape back loose paint, fill cracks and apply a breathable masonry paint. Bare facing brick that has never been painted is a bigger decision, and Graham will talk it through honestly.

Colour care in the conservation area

Historic England's records show a Papworth Everard conservation area, and the parish has six listed buildings, including Papworth Hall and the Church of St Peter, both Grade II*. If your house is in the conservation area or listed, check with South Cambridgeshire District Council before a colour change to walls, doors or windows.

We can paint test patches on a discreet section so you can see a colour in daylight first. Our exterior house painting page explains the survey and repairs, and if your windows are white uPVC rather than timber, uPVC spraying in Papworth Everard is another option.

How we approach exterior painting

Graham walks every elevation first, noting soft timber on fascias and sills, failed putty and any cracked render. Repairs go into the quotation, our carpenter deals with rot, and then we clean, sand and prime bare timber. Roofline, gutters and downpipes are painted on one access run. Work is booked for the drier months and timed around the forecast. The full method, products and FAQs are on our exterior painting page.

Exterior Painting in Papworth Everard: questions

Can't see your question? Call Graham or send a message and we'll get back to you.

How often should fascias and soffits be painted?

It depends on how exposed they are and what finish was used last, but they need regular protective coats to keep water out. Graham will check their condition and tell you if they need doing now or can wait.

Our house is in the Papworth conservation area. Can we still repaint it?

Yes, repainting is normal maintenance. The thing to check with the council is a change of colour, particularly on a listed building, and we'll work to whatever they agree.
