Is your St Neots floor sandable?
Most of the town was built after 1965, and homes from then onwards are more likely to have chipboard, engineered boards or laminate under the carpet. Laminate can't be sanded at all, and engineered boards only a limited number of times. Before pricing, Chris lifts a board or looks at an edge to see exactly which kind of floor it is.
Older terraces, and solid hardwood floors laid in newer houses, can both be good candidates. Lift a carpet corner to see what's there.
Floor sanding from first pass to oil
Chris sands with a belt sander and an edging sander, fills gaps with the floor's own sawdust and Induro Morrells Mix & Fill, then finishes with Osmo oil. In Haddenham he used Polyx tint oil in Gold with flecks of 24-carat gold; a clear oil keeps the timber close to its sanded colour. The Haddenham job has photos.

How we approach floor sanding
Before sanding, loose boards are fixed and protruding nails punched down so they don't tear the paper. Heavy sanding goes from coarse to fine grades, the edges are done separately, and minor damage repaired. A Mirka dust-free sander does the final smoothing. Thin coats of Osmo are applied and dried, then the room is checked with you. The full method, products and FAQs are on our floor sanding page.
