A small share of period homes
Only about 6% of St Neots properties predate 1919, around 980 by Council Tax records, so sash windows are a minority of the town's windows. Where they exist, they're often an important part of a building's character. Check with Huntingdonshire District Council before changing an outside colour.
We do the decorative work: scraping, filling, priming and painting. Rotten sections, broken cords or replacement sashes go to our carpenter, planned before the paintwork so the finish isn't spoilt.
What sash window restoration involves
Graham inspects every window, since the side facing the weather usually needs most. The quotation lists each one, so you can prioritise. We work the sashes as we paint, keep paint thin on sliding faces, and seal the putty with a neat line onto the glass. In one Cambridge bedroom the window went in Fired Earth Turkish Blue eggshell.

How we approach sash window restoration
Paint is scraped back to a sound edge and feathered with Mirka dust-free sanders, which keeps dust contained where older layers may contain lead. Open joints and cracks are filled, bare timber primed and sill end grain sealed with extra care. Coats are sanded lightly in between, finishing in eggshell or satin, or exterior-grade paint outside. The full method, products and FAQs are on our sash window restoration page.
