Keeping water out of old timber
Sash windows last for generations while the paint protects them. Once it cracks, rain gets into the joints and bottom rails and decay speeds up. Our work is the decorative side: scraping back, sanding, filling open joints, priming bare timber and repainting so the sashes still slide.
Rotten timber and broken cords need joinery, and our carpenter handles those so you still deal with one firm. Graham notes the condition of each window at the visit and the quotation lists them one by one.
Colours on Earning Street and Post Street
In the conservation areas and on listed houses, window colour matters to the street. Check with Huntingdonshire District Council before moving away from what is there. Our main sash window page explains finishes such as eggshell and satin.

How we approach sash window restoration
We scrape back to a sound edge and sand with Mirka dust-free sanders to keep dust from older, possibly lead-based paint out of the room. Sills and end grain are primed thoroughly, joints filled, and each coat is lightly sanded. Sashes are worked up and down during painting and eased before we leave each evening. The full method, products and FAQs are on our sash window restoration page.
