Flats, family houses and rented rooms
The 2021 Census recorded 3,462 households in the town, and about 15% of them had a single bedroom. Small flats need a different approach from a four-bedroom house: lighter colours that keep the space open, washable paint in narrow hallways and careful scheduling when there is nowhere else to sit while a room dries.
For landlords, around 17% of homes rent privately and nearly 18% from a social landlord. Between tenancies we make good fixing holes, block stains with Zinsser and repaint in a finish that can be touched up later.
Old walls and newer ones
Interior decorating in Godmanchester's older houses means working on uneven walls and soft plaster, sometimes with lining paper first, as we did in Victorian bedrooms in Histon. The 1980s and 1990s homes that make up much of the town usually need cracks filled and old woodwork brought up to date.

How we approach interior decorating
In a 1980s or 1990s Godmanchester house we fill cracks, sand back old gloss with Mirka dust-free sanders and repaint woodwork in satin or eggshell. In older properties we check the plaster first, line where it is poor and pick breathable paints such as Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion. Tester pots go on several walls before you decide.
