A town built across many decades
Council Tax records list about 10,940 properties in Huntingdon, and no single era dominates. Around 730 date from before 1900, a big wave of building followed between 1955 and 1972, and the 1980s and 90s added roughly three in ten of today's homes. About 1,390 more have gone up since 2009.
The 2021 Census fills in the types of home: roughly 29% detached, 25% semi-detached, 28% terraced and 18% flats. That spread means one week might bring a sash window in an older house and the next a set of 1990s kitchen doors.
Listed buildings and the two conservation areas
Historic England lists 123 buildings in the parish: four at Grade I, including Hinchingbrooke House, ten at Grade II*, among them the Town Hall and Walden House, and 109 at Grade II. Huntingdon and Hartford each have a conservation area.
The town grew as a coaching centre in the 18th and 19th centuries, the George Hotel being the best-known inn, and a well-preserved medieval bridge once carried Ermine Street over the river. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, Graham will flag anything worth checking with Huntingdonshire District Council, such as exterior colours or window work.
Renters, landlords and businesses
Only 56% of Huntingdon households own their home, with about 23% renting privately and 20% in social housing. We work for landlords and letting agents on end-of-tenancy refreshes, and for offices and shops on schedules that suit their opening hours.
Our base in Landbeach is about 20 miles away by road, roughly 24 minutes' drive. Graham still visits every job before quoting, and Belinda organises the project. Read what customers say on our reviews page, or see commercial painting for business premises.
