What Hardwick's housing tells us before we visit
Council Tax records list about 1,330 properties in Hardwick, and close to 44% of them were built between 1965 and 1982. Add the homes put up since 2000, roughly 28%, with new houses recorded every year from 2019 to 2024, and you have a village where genuinely old buildings are rare. Under 2% of the stock predates 1919.
The 2021 Census shows what that means on the ground: 84% of homes are detached or semi-detached, only about 3% are flats, and four in five households have three bedrooms or more. Most are owned, with 43% owned outright and another 34% bought with a mortgage.
That shapes the work people need. Halls and landings in 1970s houses, textured ceilings that have outlasted several owners, fitted kitchens from the 1980s and 90s, and fences around family gardens. Our interior decorating and exterior painting pages explain how we handle each.
The older corner of the village
Hardwick still has a conservation area, and Historic England lists seven buildings in the parish. The Parish Church of St Mary is Grade II*, and Old Victoria Farmhouse and Victoria Farm Cottage are among the six at Grade II. If your home is listed or inside the conservation area, Graham will talk through what is worth checking with South Cambridgeshire District Council before an outside colour changes.
Inside an older cottage the approach shifts too: softer plaster, lining paper where walls are uneven, and breathable paints such as Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion.
Getting to Hardwick from Landbeach
The village lies just south of the A428, about 11 miles from our base by road and usually around a quarter of an hour's drive. Graham visits every job himself, looks at the rooms, and sends a written quotation, usually by email.
Our nearest documented work is in Comberton, where finished living rooms appear in our gallery. All 12 of our decorators are City & Guilds or NVQ qualified, and we are Dulux Select Decorators.
