Plastering work in a newer town
In homes built since 2000, the jobs we see are cracks at ceiling joins, damaged patches after a kitchen or bathroom refit, holes left by old fixings and walls that have been knocked about over two decades of family life. Lewis, our plasterer, and a master plasterer we work with handle the skimming, and our decorators follow on.
Not every crack needs a plasterer. Graham decides at the visit whether a decorator's filler will do or a skim is needed, so you don't pay for more plastering than the room requires.
The older houses in the parish
About 150 properties in the parish are recorded as built before 1919, including Great Common Farmhouse, which is listed. Older walls like these can be lath and plaster, and we take a more careful approach. The bedroom we stripped and skimmed in Cambridge shows that process.

How we approach plastering
After skimming, we leave the plaster to dry fully, sand lightly with Mirka dust-free sanders to remove nibs, then apply a mist coat of thinned emulsion to seal it and show any dips. Those are filled and spot-sanded before two full coats. Water stains are sealed with Zinsser stain block first. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
