Kitchens from the 2000s building boom
The busiest years for building in Cambourne were 2000 to 2008, and many of those homes will still have their first fitted kitchen. Typically the carcasses are fine and the layout works, but the door colour has dated or the finish near the handles has worn.
We look at what the doors are made of before quoting. Painted timber, solid wood and MDF all take paint well when prepared properly. If a door finish is unlikely to hold paint, Graham will tell you at the visit.
Spraying in a family kitchen
Graham uses a Graco Ultra cordless airless handheld sprayer, which gives an even, brush-free coat on flat slab doors. In a larger kitchen the masking time pays for itself; in a smaller one a brush and roller may be quicker.
We plan the order of work so you can still reach the sink and fridge. Our main kitchen unit painting page has more on paints and finishes.

How we approach kitchen cabinet painting
We label and remove doors, degrease every surface with extra attention near the hob, then sand the old finish with Mirka dust-free sanders. A Zinsser primer chosen for the surface goes on first, followed by a durable woodwork eggshell or satin from Tikkurila, Farrow & Ball or Dulux. The full method, products and FAQs are on our kitchen cabinet painting page.
