Skimming Artex ceilings in Comberton
In the 440 or so houses built between 1965 and 1972, and the 170 from the following decade, a swirled or stippled ceiling is likely somewhere. Lewis, our plasterer, or the master plasterer we work with skims over the texture to give a flat surface, once the room is cleared, fittings are down and floors are covered.
One Cambridge customer had exactly this done and remarked on how clean and tidy Lewis left the house. The Artex ceiling case study shows the before and after.
Cracks, old cottages and making good
Hairline cracks along ceiling joints can usually be filled. Deeper or recurring cracks may point to movement or a leak above, and we'll tell you if that's what we think rather than paint over it.
About 8% of the village predates 1919, and some of those walls will be lath and plaster. Graham decides at the visit whether a wall needs skimming or just careful filling and lining, so you aren't paying for plaster you don't need.

How we approach plastering
Floors and furniture are sheeted, then the ceiling is prepared so the skim bonds. Once the plaster has dried right through, we sand nibs with a Mirka dust-free sander, apply a thinned mist coat to seal it and show up any marks, fill those, and finish with two coats of your chosen emulsion. The full method, products and FAQs are on our plastering page.
