Swapping builders' finishes for your own colours
Buntingford gained at least 1,270 homes from 2009 onwards, according to Council Tax records. Rooms in new houses are usually handed over in a single pale emulsion, and the first redecoration is often when owners choose a proper scheme. We paint tester pots in several places so you can see each colour in your own light, then apply two coats over a sound, filled surface.
Woodwork in new homes can benefit from a better finish too. We repaint skirtings and doors in satin or eggshell, such as Tikkurila satinwood.
Larger family homes and older rooms
Nearly a third of Buntingford homes have four or more bedrooms, so whole-house jobs here can be substantial. With 12 qualified decorators, we can staff a big job properly and work room by room so the house stays usable.
In the 300 or so pre-1900 homes, walls may be soft or heavily patched plaster. We fill, line where needed and choose breathable paints such as Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion. You can read about a similar older house in our Histon Victorian bedrooms project.

How we approach interior decorating
For a Buntingford new build we fill and sand any settlement cracks with Mirka dust-free sanders and mist-coat bare plaster before colour. Ceilings, walls and woodwork follow in that order. Floors and furniture are covered from the start, and as the drive is about 43 minutes, we plan full working days on site rather than short visits. The full method, products and FAQs are on our interior decorating page.
