Decorating Baldock homes from the interwar years on
In interwar rooms we fill cracks, sand back old runs, and line walls where the plaster is uneven before any colour goes on. A washable, breathable matt such as Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion suits these walls and touches up well.
The largest group in the town is newer, though. About 1,230 homes date from 1983 to 1992, and in those it's usually tired hallways, marked woodwork and ceilings that need a fresh coat rather than repair.
Flats, rentals and family houses
Around a third of Baldock households rent, either privately or from a social landlord, and almost one home in five is a flat. For landlords we work to the next tenancy date, making good fixings and stain-blocking marks with Zinsser. One- and two-bedroom homes make up about 42% of the town, so many of these jobs are compact.
Our guide on what a decorator costs explains what affects a quotation, and Graham will put every item in writing after his visit.

How we approach interior decorating
Ceilings are painted first in a Baldock room, once cracks are filled and any stains sealed. Walls are then washed, filled and sanded using Mirka dust-free sanders, and older plaster is lined where it needs it. Two coats of emulsion follow, then woodwork in gloss, satin or eggshell. Tester pots go on in several spots so you can see each shade in morning and evening light. The full method, products and FAQs are on our interior decorating page.
