Family houses from every decade
Royston's stock is spread widely by age. The largest single band in Council Tax records is 1973 to 1982, and 27.6% of homes were built in 2000 or later. Newer houses usually have smooth plasterboard walls that need little more than filling and a mist coat on fresh repairs, while rooms in 1970s homes often have cracks along the ceiling line that need raking out first.
With about 80% of households in houses rather than flats, stairwells and landings come up regularly, and they need careful access planning over the stairs.
Rented homes and choosing colours
About 16% of households rent privately. For landlords, we can refresh a property between tenancies with washable finishes that touch up well, such as Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion.
For owners, colour is often the hardest decision, so we paint tester pots in several places to show each shade in morning and evening light before you commit. Browse finished rooms in our gallery or read about a Farrow & Ball scheme in Cambridge.

How we approach interior decorating
In a newer Royston house we'd fill nail pops and cracks, sand with Mirka dust-free sanders, spot-prime repairs and apply two coats of a washable matt. For a 1970s or 1980s home, ceiling cracks are raked out and filled and old gloss on woodwork is keyed before satin or eggshell goes on. Rooms are tidied every evening. The full method, products and FAQs are on our interior decorating page.
