Decorating homes across Saffron Walden
The 2021 Census counted 7,388 households in the town, and 65% of them own their home. Fiona Flynn described our team as courteous, conscientious and reliable, and very tidy and respectful of the house, which matters on a job that runs over several days. Both reviews are on our reviews page.
The housing is mixed. Council Tax records show about 1,070 homes from before 1900 and around 1,560 built since 2009, with the median band at 1973 to 1982. A Georgian or Victorian house needs stripping, filling and often lining paper; a newer home usually needs good filling and careful cutting in.
Three-bedroom houses and town-centre flats
The most common home in Saffron Walden is a three-bedroom house, about 38% of households. Flats make up a fifth of the stock, including some converted houses and flats above commercial premises, where access and parking need planning before the team arrives.
Graham visits first, talks through colours and sends a written quotation. We use Dulux, Farrow & Ball and Little Greene, and paint tester pots in several places so you can see the colour in your own light.

How we approach interior decorating
In a Saffron Walden period house we strip old paper, fill cracks and line uneven plaster before painting; in a newer home we fill, sand with Mirka dust-free sanders and stain-block any marks with Zinsser. Ceilings come first, then walls, then woodwork in eggshell or satin. The rooms are tidied every evening and walked round with you at the end. The full method, products and FAQs are on our interior decorating page.
